I have seen more and more people do this and it’s becoming really impressive. How effective would this be on stage?

What do you think?

“Adam Sevani Thriller” video

Moose from step up 2 going thriller. It seems the film industry has heard my prayers. Stop doing silly dance movies and create some really interesting material. With real choreography. Not stuff we all have been doing for the past 19 years. Ok I agree .. thriller is the most recognizable choreo ever but this is a tribute, right? It was well put together. The story line is a bit different and works. The choreography has been modified but kept the key steps of the original ones. Does this video mean we are going to get some good stuff from now on?

The league of extraordinary dancers performing at So you think you can dance.

Lxd has brought one of the most amazing dance performance I have ever seen. Mixing classical music with hip hop dance moves in such a ingenious way proves that their concept will thrill us all. What the concept really is is unclear. A movie? A tour? What will it be? It was about time to bring some fresh air into a dance industry that has been running in circles. The choreography is put together with a precision that can be compared with ‘cirque du soleil’. It gave me goosebumps. Well done guys.. this will probably be a great source of inspiration for a lot of people.

Sore Muscle Solution

October 9, 2009

Sore Muscle Solution

One of my students asked me about this.. so I looked it up.. could be usefull

Isn’t it always a relaxing treat after a show, rehearsal, or a long night of teaching to sink into a warm tub? Your feet hurt, your legs hurt, just about every part of your body hurts and what better way to sooth those aches and pains. Well, there is another way. Admittedly, it is far less enticing, but it always works for me.

I know you are dyeing with anticipation. What could this miracle cure be? I promise I will let you in on it. I will even give you a bit of technical jargon to explain the effects, if you promise you wonâ€TM</sup&gtt scream and run. Okay, now that we have an accord, it is (drum roll please,) the ICE BATH! I know it sounds dreadful, but I promise you it works. I have spoken to many non-ice bath believers and they all reluctantly changed their ways. Most have thanked me in the long run and wished they had given in sooner.

Here is why is works. Intense periods of exercise cause micro trauma or tiny tears in the muscle fibers. This is actually a good thing, because it stimulates muscle growth. The down side is, the resulting soreness that peaks one or two days after the offending activity. Taking a five to ten minute ice bath at no colder than 12 to 15 degrees helps speed the healing process. It constricts blood vessels and slows circulation. With warming, and increased blood flow, it helps to flush waste like lactic acid out of the effected tissue. There is no solid scientific evidence to support this claim, so there are no real rules as to time and temperature. I can honestly say after enduring years of sore muscles and pain, I wish someone had enlightened me to this phenomenon.

Everyone has their own way of embarking on this teeth chattering journey, but this is my five-step plan to success.

Step 1
Put on a bathing suit, sweater and a winter hat.

Step 2
Put on some Reggae music to set a tropical tone. I also suggest a hot chocolate. Maybe add a little umbrella to your cocoa to complete the mood.

Step 3
Sit down in the tub and turn on luke warm water.

Step 4
After about one minute, turn the water all the way to cold.

Step 5
Let the tub fill 1/2 way, pour in a bag of ice and sit for approximately five minutes. At this point I recommend you sit as still as possible. My kids used to love to throw the ice cubes in one at a time. Every wave of the water due to cube impact was torture a mother should never have to endure. However, waking in the morning pain free was worth the chill.

So if you find yourself agonizing with no relief in sight, you might be brave enough to put this soak to the test. Who knows, maybe some day you will share this little secret as I have. But until then, when others around you are tragically sore and popping Advil, you will be right as rain thanks to your five-minute frosty tub.
